EXPRESSION THROUGH CHARACTERS
CONCEIVED AS A SERIES OF DRAWINGS AND SCULPTURES BY THE CALENZANO ART STUDIO, THE DARKLY TALES WORKS SHOWCASE AN EXPLORATION OF THE VARIOUS CORNERS OF THE MIND, THROUGH THE USE OF ORIGINAL CARTOON CHARCTERS AND ANTHROPOMORPHIC BEINGS. CREATED USING GRAPHITE, PENCIL CRAYONS AND BALLPOINT PENS, THE STUDIO ARTISTS CREATED COMPLEX SCENES AND STORIES OF DREAM-LIKE SCENARIOS AND CHARACTER INTERACTIONS, EXPRESSING EMOTIONS SUCH AS ANXIETY, SELF-DOUBT, HEDONISM AND WORSHIP. THE INTENTIONAL USE OF PAPER FOR THIS SERIES, AS OPPOSED TO THE ART COLLECTIVE'S USUAL PREFERENCE FOR RAW CANVAS, ALLOWED FOR EXPERIMENTS IN AGEING, DISTRESSING AND BUIDLING PATINA ON VARIOUS TYPES OF ARCHIVAL PAPER AND CERAMICS.
GARMENT INTERPRETATION
ON FABRIC AS ON PAPER, THE ARTWORKS ARE HAND-TREATED AND ADAPTED TO TEXTILES FOR THE READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION. WHEN WORN AND IN MOTION BY THE WEARER, THE GARMENTS BRING THE CHARACTERS AND STORIES TO LIFE, SHOWCASING THE ARTISANAL SAVOIR-FAIRE OF THE CALENZANO ATELIER AND ITS DEDICATION TO EXPERIMENTAL GARMENT DECORATION PROCESSES.
